Ours is a welcoming, long established, boutique-style shop on ‘the golden mile of tailoring’ that is London’s Savile Row. We specialise in creating bespoke garments for both men and women, offering a breadth of choice that belies our small and relatively unassuming frontage.
Each season we have a select collection of fine ready-to-wear pieces for people who cannot wait to have their Savile Row outfit made for them. We can always alter these for optimum fit if you wish.
If you visit the shop you’ll find we also have some charming accessories – such as silver cufflinks and tie pins – with which to finish your outfits.
We offer gift vouchers, which make excellent gifts, both individual and corporate. And, unusually for Savile Row tailors, we offer an alteration and invisible repair service for all your treasured garments, not just those which we have created.
Why choose 40 Savile Row?
Choosing your tailor is very much a personal choice. Every tailoring house on Savile Row is distinctly different: some are very new, others have been clothing the aristocracy since the mid 1800s.
We’re are a small, third generation family tailoring business (originally established in 1938). Our promise is that we will give you a helpful personal service – and the full benefit of our experience and 65+ year heritage.
How we started in 1938
The business was started in 1938 by a tailor called Gerry Doltis, father of our current managing director. He went away to serve in the army between 1940 and 1946 and, in that time, his premises were destroyed in the Blitz … But he resolutely restarted it when he returned. Whilst much has happened since then, his commitment to quality and service remains at the heart of what we do.
Our team is highly experienced. When you come to the shop you’ll be greeted and served by Max, Maria or Tess, all of whom are highly experienced and have been here at 40 Savile Row for many years.
